Colorado Concours – Honoree Judges

This year’s Colorado Concours featured a distinguished panel of guest judges. Get to know our honorees:[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]JIM STRANBERG
In 1974, Jim was introduced to Bugattis and began his career as a Bugatti mechanic. He had the opportunity to work in California under Bunny Phillips, a well-known Bugatti expert, and later for Phil Reilly at another excellent shop. In 1987, Jim was offered a position in a Bugatti shop in England where he worked for 6 months, then returned to Colorado and opened his own shop, High Mountain Classic, specializing in Bugattis. The business grew to include other 20s and 30s French cars such as Delahayes, Delages and Voisins. Jim sold the shop in 2011 but remains involved.   High Mountain Classics continues its reputation as an excellent restoration shop still specializing in
Bugattis and other French cars and expanding to other cars, such as Ferraris.

For the past 24 years, Jim has participated as a judge and often as an entrant at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance winning numerous awards and a Best-of-Show and has judged at numerous other concourse events. He has been active in vintage car racing for over 30 years both as a mechanic and driver.

At the present time, Jim is semi-retired from High Mountain Classics and doing a lot of traveling, both here and abroad, and usually connected with cars!

DENISE MCCLUGGAGE
Denise McCluggage has worn many hats in her pursuit of journalism – including a polka-dotted crash helmet. She has covered and photographed cars and racing for six decades. Kansas-born, she went to California for college and stayed to work for the San Francisco Chronicle. There she met “car guys” and acquired an MG TC.

Moving eastward to the New York Herald-Tribune (1951) she broke tradition by becoming a sportswriter. Skiing was paramount but she talked the paper into covering sports car racing and continued her specialty: doing what she wrote about. Briggs Cunningham provided a range of cars including Porsche 550s. A Cunningham team drive in a Corvette at LeMans was thwarted by a “no women” rule. That also kiboshed a Porsche factory team drive another year.

Other venues were easier. Sebring included a GT victory (Ferrari,1961) and she collected trophies from Nassau, Venezuela, the Nurburgring, Daytona, etc. and the Monte Carlo Rallye (1964)

Involved from the beginning of AutoWeek, her award-winning writing still appears there as it does on www.denisemccluggage.com and www.mmrsite.com.

DENNIS LITTLE—PRESIDENT OF THE SANTA FE CONCORSO
During a thirty-year career with General Motors, Mr. Little focused on design projects with Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Chevrolet, and Cadillac. On the international scene, he interfaced with General Motors’ counterpart, Opel, as well as worked with the team at Pininfarina Design.  As Chief Designer of Cadillac Design Studios, he led many innovative projects and felt that those talents could be focused on a national concours d’elegance in Santa Fe, NM. Collaborating with a special group of eight passionate volunteers, in 2008, they founded the Santa Fe Concorso. During the past three years the Santa Fe Concorso has established itself in the top tier of up-and-coming concours in the country, and the show has become a favorite with car collectors.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row bg_color=”#eff4ff”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
